England Star To Miss Vital Panama Clash Despite Return To Training
09:53, 23 Jun 2018

England midfielder Dele Alli will miss England’s game with Panama tomorrow after suffering a thigh injury in their 2-1 win over Tunisia on Monday. Alli has returned to training, but is unlikely to be risked having played 80 minutes in that opening game win.

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek will replace him in the Three Lions’ midfield as pictures of Steve Holland’s training notes were controversially leaked by the media gathered at England’s training ground.

Those notes also indicate that Marcus Rashford will come in for Raheem Sterling as England look to get early goals against a Panama side who will be difficult to break down. Panama put up a good showing in the first half of their 3-0 defeat to Belgium but eventually succumbed to the superior Belgium side, with two goals from Manchester United Romelu Lukaku, giving the Red Devils the three points.

You can find out more about Panama and their line-up, here.

Dele Alli is expected to be fit for England’s third group game against Belgium however a good showing from Ruben Loftus-Cheek in this game could put him out of favour with boss Gareth Southgate. The England manager has a lot of tough personnel decisions to make over the next few days but will be satisfied with how his 3-5-2 formation worked v Tunisia.

He will be hoping for more of the same tomorrow, but will have to make do without Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli. You can follow the whole game tomorrow, live via our Match Centre below.
