Fantasy Football Managers On High Alert As Pep Reveals Midfielder To Return For Manchester City v Huddersfield
15:45, 17 Aug 2018

The news that Kevin De Bruyne will miss the next three months of the season after suffering a serious knee injury in training came as a horrible blow for a player who has been such a driving force for Manchester City in recent years, although there was better news coming out of the City camp on Friday.

Speaking during his press conference ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Huddersfield, City manager Pep Guardiola revealed that David Silva could be in contention to start at The Etihad and that is a major boost for Fantasy Football managers around the world. The Spaniard has been one of the most consistent performers in the English top-flight game for years now and he is set to return after missing last Sunday's 2-0 win at Arsenal with a leg injury.

Guardiola said:

He trained last two or three sessions really good. He had a problem with his leg for the Arsenal game but he has trained good in the last two or three days.

The return of Silva is a timely boost for City and Fantasy Football enthusiasts, particularly for those who had been basing their early season charge on De Bruyne. Silva may be 32 years old now but he has lost none of the class and guile that has made him such a popular pick over the years, whilst it bodes well that he should be fitter and fresher during this upcoming season as he has retired from international football with Spain.

Silva provided nine goals, 11 assists and 169 points for Fantasy Football managers during the course of the 2017/18 campaign and he is surely a snip at a cost of just £8.5m this time around.

His statistics are quite frankly ridiculous as the Spaniard has scored 47 goals and provided 93 assists during the past eight Premier League seasons and his Fantasy Football statistics bare comparison with any of his contemporaries.

He has picked up a remarkable grand total of 1212 points in his eight seasons with City since joining from La Liga outfit Valencia in 2010 and he is averaging 151.5 points per season currently.

We await to see whether Guardiola thrusts the Spanish midfielder straight back into his starting line-up against Huddersfield at The Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
