Forget Raheem Sterling And Eden Hazard, This Liverpool Superstar Is A Massive Price To Be The Player Of The Year

Liverpool are top of the pops at Christmas thanks to their excellent 2-0 against Wolves on Friday night with Jurgen Klopp's men producing a stunning first half of the season.

The Reds remain the only team in the Premier League to be unbeaten thanks to some remarkable form at both ends of the pitch.

Mo Salah continues to gain all the plaudits at the sharp end with his goals absolutely crucial of course but it is at the back where this Liverpool squad continue to be a sensation. When Virgil Van Dijk was bought into the club for a big fee there were plenty of eyebrows raised over the price tag but he now seems like an absolute bargain.

The big Dutchman has been nothing short of a colossus this season with a series of mammoth displays leading many to declare the former Southampton man as the best defender in the world.

There is no doubt that the 27-year-old is a crucial cog in the Liverpool team and is being recognised as such but there could be even greater plaudits to come for VVD.

The race to be the PFA Player Of The Year is always interesting but that that is certainly the case so far this term with David Silva, Eden Hazard, Raheem Sterling and the aforementioned Mo Salah all being talked about as potential winners.

Those players are all worthy contenders of course but are any of them as important as Van Dijk is for Liverpool?

Since joining the Anfield club, the former Celtic star has transformed a defence which had been leaky in the past and turned the club into genuine Premier League title contenders.

The Dutch captain even managed to get a goal at Molineux on Friday night to show his impact in the other penalty box and at 14/1 with one firm, his price to nab the big award at the end of the campaign is massive.

If Liverpool are to win the league then it will have been largely down to the brilliant Van Dijk and given his form at the moment, the individual awards could be set to flow.
