Former Manchester United Star Wayne Rooney Allegedly Arrested In Washington Last Month

Wayne Rooney has never been one to shy away from controversy and he has reportedly found himself in a bit of trouble with the law in the United States of America.

The former Manchester United and Everton forward has been plying his trade, with great success, for DC United in Major League Soccer, although he has made headlines for the wrong reasons, according to a tweet from ABC7 News reporter Erin Hawksworth.

Rooney was allegedly arrested on "public intoxication and swearing charges", and reportedly paid a $25 fine. The offence apparently took place in Washington on 12 December 2018.

It isn't the first time that Rooney has got into trouble with the police as he was found to be three times over the drink-drive limit in 2017 and was subsequently banned from driving for  two years, as well as to serve 100 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order.

Rooney's club at the time, Everton, fined him around two weeks' wages as a consequence - about £300,000.

It remains to be seen how DC United react to the latest alleged indiscretion and we await a response from the player himself, who has proven to be a big hit in the USA.

The 33-year-old scored 12 goals and laid on six assists in 21 appearances as DC United progressed to the MLS play-offs last season. He was involved in a goal every 137 minutes he was on the pitch for the American side.

In light of the latest rumours, it seems you can take the Englishman out of England but you can't take the Englishman out of Wayne Rooney!
