Lyon’s striker Memphis has taken to social media and emphatically batted away the cruel taunts of fans of Les Gones’ rivals St Etienne.
The Dutch international’s side claimed a win in the Rhône-Alpes Derby on Sunday courtesy of Moussa Dembele's 95th minute winner.
But a tense, hard-fought encounter between the two rivals was marred by a banner which was held up by the home fans which read: “'Memphis - 5 million followers but no dad.”
This was a reference to the player’s troubled relationship with his father, which he’s been open about in the past. The five million followers is a reference to his well-known social media profile, which includes 5.9m followers on the photo-sharing platform Instagram.
In a series of post on one of his social media account, the 24-year-old showed maturity beyond his years.
"I also know they mad they just mad they don’t have 1 player with the same quality like me.
"It doesn’t bother me 1 second, I just wanted to say some things about it. 0 points against us this season i can imagine what that feels like. Should I continue…?
"No weapon formed against you shall prosper, I leave it by that! God bless everybody! Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only love can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, love can do that."
Not content with this, the former PSV and Manchester United man also on social media once more to make a correction to their banner.
Well played.
