Football fans are not exactly known for their patience and that has been in full evidence in the case of Alvaro Morata and his spell at Chelsea.

The Spanish striker left Stamford Bridge today on loan to join Atletico Madrid in a move which put an end to a miserable stay in the Premier League. The former Real Madrid man arrived in England with a massive reputation and with Chelsea fans hoping he would be the long term replacement for Diego Costa, but in truth it has been a disastrous transfer for all parties.

The 26-year-old never settled at the Bridge with some initial decent form followed by an alarming dip in confidence which has finally ended wt  this exit from the club. Maurizio Sarri clearly never fancied the former Juventus player and was seemingly happy for the club to let Morata go, with Gonzalo Higuain already brought into the team as the replacement.

Chelsea fans have clearly endured a roller-coaster ride with their expensive flop and it was fair to say that there was a mixed reaction to the news that he was finally on his way out of squad...

Good riddance! - (@dennisnjau100)

FINALLLYYYYYYYY. NO MORE FALLING OVER EVERY TWO SECONDS - (@CFCJords)

bye, don't come back - (@brandon020698)

So thats our 57 millions pounds down the drain!!smh - (@Olisinho____)

It wasn't all negative though with some more forgiving fans giving their former star a positive send off and some good luck messages for the future.

I would have preferred him to stay over Giroud. He could learn positioning with Higuain. All the best Alvaro - (@SupraDemmy)

Shame he didn’t fit in Chelsea. He’s a good player but not suited to the Premier League. - (@SarribalEra)

All eyes will be on Morata now as he heads back to La Liga and Chelsea fans in particular will be watching closely as they wait to see if the club has cut their ties with a player out of his depth, or if they have given up too soon on a forward who needed more time.
