West Brom are in tatters at the moment. In the space of one woeful week the rock-bottom Midlands club suffered their third Premier League loss on the spin, sacked their chairman and chief executive, were dumped out of the FA Cup by Southampton, and let’s not forget the absolute shambles of their warm-weather training camp in Spain, during which four players bizarrely stole a taxi outside McDonalds.
Boss Alan Pardew subsequently finds himself buried under an avalanche of pressure as bookmakers refreshed the odds and installed the Baggies boss as the new favourite for the sack. Uh Oh.
Eight Premier League gaffers have already been axed this season, including former West Brom manager Tony Pulis, and now Pardew is in real danger of extending that tally to nine.
Should the club wield the axe down on Pards, then they face a real dilemma...who on earth would they bring in as his replacement at this pivotal stage of the season as they bid to survive the dreaded drop down to the Championship?
Well, you may be surprised to hear that it’s that man Harry Redknapp who has emerged as the shock favourite in the betting (12/5 with Paddy Power).
Redknapp was last seen in management with West Brom’s Midlands rivals Birmingham City. At the end of last season the veteran gaffer dramatically saved the Blues from relegation down to League One, then decided to stay on at St Andrews, only to be given the boot back in September when he became the first casualty of the 2017/18 Championship season.
Redknapp has since cropped up at Yeovil Town, helping out boss Darren Way in an advisory role. However, should top-flight West Brom come calling the 70-year-old may well fancy one last stab in the managerial arena.
Other contenders in the next manager market include the club’s old boss Gary Megson, former Stoke manager Mark Hughes, and the ex Hull and Watford gaffer Marco Silva, while Nigel Pearson is out at 20/1…
West Brom head into the final 11 matches of the season seven points adrift of safety, with a crunch clash at home to Huddersfield coming up on Saturday.
