Burnley are on their way back to East Lancashire with all three points in tonight's late kick-off, comfortable 3-1 winners over Brighton & Hove Albion.
But the game provided a huge talking point which could have seen the game swing back in favour of the home side.
In what must rank as one of the worst decisions of the season, the clearest handball you could wish to see by Jeff Hendricks was missed by the referee Stuart Atwell and a penalty was not awarded.
Even his Burnley team-mates joked with him as he walked off, shocked at the fact he'd got away with such a blatant attempt to steer the ball away with his arm.
The BT Sport commentary team was equally confused and resident former referee Peter Walton admitted it was an embarrassing error. "It's very disappointing," he admitted. "We can sit here and see such a clear handball being missed.
"In fariness to Stuart Atwell he didn't have the best view because he's behind the player. But I would have hoped his assistant on the far side may have been focussed enough to see it happen and help Stuart out.
"It was a penalty kick - we can all see it was a penalty kick and unfortunately he got it wrong. We will read the newspapers tomorrow and VAR will be championed. If VAR had been here today you may have seen a different outcome.
"The officials will know an error has been made and they will be debriefing, looking at each other and asking how they got it wrong."
Brighton fans took to Twitter to curse their bad luck after a result which could yet have serious implications for the remainder of the season.
