Jonas Lossl has been an ever-present for Huddersfield Town in the Premier League this season and he is desperate to be playing against the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool again next term.

The Denmark international goalkeeper has cut an impressive figure during his a season-long loan from German side Mainz and is poised sign on a permanent deal with the Terriers on July 1.

The 29-year-old will head to Russia for the World Cup in the summer, but first the small matter of keeping David Wagner’s men in English football’s top flight.

Huddersfield have a formidable run-in in their final three games, with Sunday’s trip to Pep Guardiola's champions followed by a midweek trip to Chelsea and a final-day visit of Arsenal next weekend.

Asked about his side’s survival prospects, Lossl said: “It would be an unbelievable achievement and now we have a chance of doing it against one of the big teams, which would make it even more fantastic.

“That’s our main goal and we know we can do something big for the club and its history by staying in this league.

“It’s so difficult to grasp but at the same time you can’t be nervous because we need the points.

“When you take a step back and look at the big picture, it would be massive. David has described it is a miracle and I can relate to that.”

Wagner performed one miracle last season by steering the Yorkshire outfit into the top flight for the first time since 1972.

The charismatic German has refused to rule out succeeding Antonio Conte at Chelsea and will speak to Huddersfield owner Dean Hoyle about his future when the campaign draws to a close.

Moves to Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund, whose reserve team he previously managed, and Liverpool have also been mooted, with Jurgen Klopp seeking a new assistant following the shock departure of Zeljko Buvac.

Lossl added: “I don’t know what David’s plans are, but obviously him and Klopp are good friends.

“I hope he would stay even if we got relegated, but it’s only him who knows that.

“I sense he has a huge passion and belief in this club and I think his heart is in the right place.

“However, I have 25 team-mates who all dream of playing at the highest level and at the biggest teams – myself included.

“I think that kind of passion is in you as a coach as well. David is certainly the best coach I’ve ever had.

“I love being here and my four-year-old daughter has a proper Yorkshire accent already.

“It would be fantastic to go to the World Cup knowing there is another season of Premier League football to look forward to.”

Last week’s defeat to Everton was a massive blow to Huddersfield’s survival prospects but Lossl revealed: “We had our annual awards evening the following day and watched highlight reels from this season.

“That made me proud, particularly the win at West Brom and obviously beating Manchester United at home in October.

“I know we have lost a lot of games as well, but these moments were special and motivated me to think ‘I want to take the final step to make us safe’.

“I heard many people say at the start of the year that Huddersfield were going to finish bottom.

“But now, we can actually finish things off ourselves because it’s in our hands. We have the possibility of doing something very big.”
