Jurgen Klopp would've watched Manchester City thrash Huddersfield Town 6-1 in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon and will expect his Liverpool side to follow up their 4-0 win over West Ham United in their first match of the season with a victory at Crystal Palace on Monday night.
A trip to Selhurst Park can often unsettle even the best sides, and Klopp will hope his Liverpool side can make it two wins from two, as they look to keep up with Pep Guardiola's City at the top of the table, and the Reds manager has provided a positive injury update on defender Joel Matip, who he expects to be fit enough to make the matchday squad in London.
Having picked up a muscle injury in pre-season in the match against Borussia Dortmund, Matip has returned to full training, and also featured in an hour-long behind-closed-doors match at Melwood, Liverpool's training ground.
With Dejan Lovren out injured, Liverpool will be eager to get Matip back into the squad as defensive backup to Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez, who were the central defensive duo in that aforementioned West Ham win, but Klopp's positive response when asked about the 27-year-old will come as good news for Reds fans.
Speaking to the Liverpool FC website, Klopp said: "“Joel is close to being back,” “Hopefully he is able to be in the squad on Monday, so then we will have him, added," Klopp.
Goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah handed Liverpool a 2-1 win the last time they visited Crystal Palace in the league in March 2018.
