Manchester United’s top transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly has finally spoken about his future at current club Napoli. United will be encouraged by his interview in which he states he is ‘pleased’ with the transfer interest from several clubs.
He told Rai Sport: "My future? I don’t know if I’m one of the strongest defenders. I always try to give my best. Since I’m here, I always try to grow with Napoli. I have a lot of motivation to go on and I want to keep doing this.
“I am pleased that many teams follow me, but I want to demonstrate on the field that I am at the level of the greatest and I want to show it in the future."
United have had a long-standing interest in the Senegalese centre-back and he could be exactly the man they need to strengthen their defence, with the club currently rotating Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling.
The 27-year-old is at the peak of his career and would instantly improve United’s back line. Liverpool this season have shown how important a top-class defender can be in transforming a side and United will be hoping that Koulibaly can have a similar impact to Van Dijk at Anfield, even if he costs over £100m.
Napoli are currently struggling to keep pace with Juventus at the top of Serie A, with the Old Lady boasting a whopping 14 point lead of the second-placed side. They are in a good position to progress to the next round of the Europa League however, after a decent 3-1 away win at FC Zurich in midweek.
Koulibaly is a vital part of their side and one thing can be guaranteed, they will not let him leave cheaply. His current contract runs until 2023 meaning United will have to pay big bucks to prize him away from Naples.
