There were remarkable scenes in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday night as referee, Tony Chapron, appeared to kick out at a Nantes player during their 1-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Chapron was running back towards the Nantes goal when he became tangled with Nantes player, Diego Carlos, who appeared to accidentally trip the official as they bundled into one another.
Chapron reacted angrily though as the 45-year-old swung a petulant kick at the Brazilian defender as he attempted to get up from his own prone position.
To make matters worse, Chapron then sent off Carlos following the incident in injury time as the referee showed him a second yellow card, apparently for dissent, and it is fair to assume that there will be repercussions from this bizarre incident.
The match at Stade de la Beaujoire finished in a 1-0 win for Paris Saint-Germain as they extended their lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table to a formidable 11 points.
It was former Manchester United man, Angel Di Maria, who earned Unai Emery's side the three points thanks to his first half goal, although it is fair to assume that this game will be remembered for the actions of a Mr Tony Chapron...
