It was all the talk coming into the Champions League last sixteen clash between Chelsea and Barcelona that Lionel Messi had never scored against the London club in eight matches.

Well that particular hoodoo was put to bed as Lionel Messi stroked the ball home past Thibault Courtois to level the scores at Stamford Bridge.

It was Messi's first ever goal against Chelsea, his first in 730 minutes against the Blues and hist first in five matches for Barcelona and a 98th goal in the Champions League for the diminutive Argentinian.

The goal came fifteen minutes after Willian had given the home side the lead. The Brazilian scoring from the edge of the area having hit both posts in the first half.

That goal however sparked the visitors into action with Messi and Luis Suarez leading the attack. Andreas Iniesta latched onto a poor crossfield pass on the edge of the Chelsea penalty area before squaring it for Lionel Messi who stroked the ball home with aplomb.

Judging by the celebration, Lionel Messi was pretty happy to get that particular monkey off his back and give his Barcelona team a vital away goal.
