Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has called the current squad at Anfield "the strongest squad since I’ve been here" and he wants them to be challenging for trophies this season.
Unbeaten in the league after eight matches, Liverpool have turned into major contenders for the Premier League title this season and will fancy their chances of trying to eclipse reigning champions Manchester City as well as surpassing Chelsea and Arsenal, who both hold prominent positions after the first quarter of the season.
However, the captain of the Reds feels that the current crop of players are the best he has been involved in since his arrival at Anfield in 2011 and feels that Jurgen Klopp has a tough job to keep all the players happy as he looks to mastermind a first Premier League-winning campaign on Merseyside.
Speaking to Liverpool's club magazine, Henderson said: "“It’s probably the strongest squad since I’ve been here. You need 20, 22-plus players really – two teams to basically challenge for every trophy." “When you’re playing every three or four days on a constant basis you need to freshen things up, whether that’s with a couple of changes or a few more, depending on what the manager wants to do. You need everyone as fresh as can be, really, to share the load, so in that sense I feel it is certainly the strongest squad I’ve been part of," added Henderson.
Henderson, who has struggled to nail down his midfield position following the arrival of Naby Keita continued, “As a group, we need to make sure that everyone is in it together through tough periods of games from now right until the end of the season, fingers crossed, if we keep doing well,” continues the No.14. Christmas, as we know, will be a busy period and the games come thick and fast so people need to keep doing what they’ve been doing, keep training hard if you’re not playing, and when you get your chance to play in the first team you’ve got to take your opportunity. "Being in it together is the biggest thing and that’s what we’re trying to do.”
Discussing the Liverpool squad's chances of bagging silverware this season the 28-year-old, who signed from Sunderland seven years ago concluded, “The lads understand that. They’ve all been really good about it so far and I’m sure things will get better because with all the games we’ve got coming you’re going to get injuries during the season. We need everyone if we’re going to win trophies.”
Liverpool fans, do you agree with Jordan Henderson? Is this the strongest Liverpool squad in recent times?
