Liverpool looked to have pulled out of the race to sign the Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker earlier this summer but reports from Italy now suggest a deal could be back on.
Sky in Italy report that the Merseyside outfit are, once more, in official negotiations with the Brazilian No.1’s side and are favourite to land a replacement for the much-maligned Loris Karius in the Anfield nets.
They report that Jurgen Klopp’s side have offered a massive £62M plus a further £4M in additional payments but the Italians are holding out for more.
Chelsea, who could be set to lose Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid, with the Belgian ‘stopper a target for the Champions League holders.
Their opening bid of £44M, however, falls well short of Roma’s valuation and has left Liverpool at the front of the queue.
It’s a position that’s been a problem for Liverpool over a number of seasons, with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius both struggling with consistent and continual errors in big matches.
The 25-year-old stopper has spent two years in Italy following his arrival from Internacional in his homeland.
It’s been suggested by reports in Italy that he has already met with the Liverpool manager as he seizes up what the best next move is for his burgeoning career.
If a deal was to struck for the amounts being quoted by the press on the peninsula then it would make him the most expensive goalkeeper in history.
His former side will reportedly look towards Paris Saint-Germain man Alphonse Areola or Copenhagen’s Robin Olsen.
