The bookies have cut their odds on Manchester City to win the league after their 2-1 success over Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool but despite this change in the market, the bookies still make the Reds favourites to lift the Premier League trophy for the first time ever in May.
Liverpool’s odds have drifted slightly after last night’s defeat from 4/7 on to win the league out to ⅚ whilst Manchester City have come in from 7/4 into 6/5 to defend their title. They would become the first club since Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United a decade ago to defend the Premier League title and it would mark a brilliant achievement for this fantastic City side.
Liverpool still have a four-point gap at the top of the Premier League and that is the reason they are still favourites for the title. Of course, it is not just a two horse race at the top of the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur just five points off the pace, currently lying in third place.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men are a whopping 20/1 to scoop the title in May, which just shows how the bookies view their title hopes. Pochettino is famously yet to win a trophy with Tottenham and he could well be off to Manchester United in the summer but he is unlikely, according to the bookies to leave north London in the most spectacular way.
This title run-in could be one of the closest in recent memory and it is excellent for English football to have two teams at the top of the table playing excellent football and pushing each other all the way.
