Manchester City To Steal A March On Barcelona By Breaking The Bank For Ajax Star

Manchester City already have an extragalactic nebula of stars are already packed like sardines into the Etihad, but with manager Pep Guardiola having never been known to be one to rest on his laurels, are already

The Blues still remain far and away favourites to retain the Premier League title, and City are certainly a team capable of doing it, with style and positively riveting panache.

As equally an excellent buy as it is seem trying to complete with the European elite One player who could fit easily into their swaggering ranks is a long-term Barcelona target.

With reports already circulating that City were already interested in young Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, it is another de Godenzonen player, and arguably more high profile, who is now being linked with a move to the Etihad.

Frenkie De Jong is the man in the frame, reports The Sun, with City and Guardiola willing to break their own transfer record to bring the midfielder to the club with a sensational £62million bid, that may even price out the Blaugrana.

Currently the transfer record of Manchester City’s expenditure is the £60million they paid Leicester City in the summer for Algerian star Riyad Mahrez, who has done little to repay that astronomical fee so far.

The 21-year-old De Jong however is widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects to come out of Ajax in years. He also has oodles of versatility, not only dictating in the centre of midfield but with the capability to slot into the back-line if necessary.

He has half a century of appearances for the Ajax team already under his belt and has attracted numerous gargantuan names across the continent, with Barcelona the most speculated.

He is currently contracted at the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.

Could Guardiola pull the rug out from underneath his former, beloved, club’s feet? Could De Jong be the first Ajax player since Hatem Trabelsi in 2006 to move direct from Amsterdam to the blue side of Manchester?
