Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has made a surprising prediction about his old club's chances of Premier League success this season.
Jose Mourinho's men enjoyed an opening night win over Leicester City on Friday with goals from Paul Pogba and Luke Shaw on the scoresheet.
United were not as active in the transfer market as he would have liked and the club failed in its attempts to sign a defender in the final days of the window.
"It will be a difficult season for everybody," Mourinho said on Friday. "For us it will be a difficult season because I had my plans, and I had my plans for many months, and I started the Premier League season without a situation I thought. We have to wait until the end of November to understand if we can fight for the title."
Mourinho had an unlikely ally in Moyes who is still looking for a new job after he left West Ham United last season. The Scot told BBC Radio5Live that he expected United to be battling at the top of the Premier League by Christmas. "It doesn't matter who you are playing in the Premier League, they are tough," said Moyes.
"But if you were looking at the games that Manchester United have, the first nine, 10 games. You'd have to say you are not playing an Arsenal, a City, a Chelsea in that period.
"That's why I wonder if Jose's words the other day, the 'let's wait until the end of November', I would be very surprised if United weren't top of the league come the end of November.
"I think the fixtures which have come out for them, and the way it has worked, will give them every opportunity to be there."
