Manchester United Fans In Meltdown As Star Man Is Dropped From Official Calendar
15:15, 27 Nov 2018

Manchester United fans have been quick to spot that one of their best players this season hasn't made the club's official calendar for 2019.

Does that mean that the player in question - Anthony Martial - doesn't have a future at the club or is this just case of bad luck?

Martial was widely tipped to leave Old Trafford in the summer as his relationship with United boss Jose Mourinho seemed to be on the rocks. He was left out of the France team and he was continually linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal.

But Martial has become one of United's most consistent performers in a stuttering season and he has cemented his place in United's first team squad.

Players who do get a month of their own in the calendar include Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba, Fred and David De Gea. Even fringe players like Ander Herrera and Eric Bailly have made the cut.

United fans have been all over Twitter to question what all this means for their top scorer and their reactions have been suitably overblown.

While supporters may have their own conspiracy theories, the fact is these calendars are designed months in advance and it was probably quite reasonable for Martial not to be included when the finishing touches were being put to the design back in August.

"The Curse of the Calendar" is nothing new. Last year, Philippe Coutinho appeared as the January poster boy in the Liverpool calendar only for him to be sold to Barcelona. And Alexis Sanchez got a starring role in the Arsenal 2018 calendar only to be sold to Manchester United soon after.
