Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has another record in his sights.
The Manchester United interim manager has already enjoyed the greatest start of any Man Utd boss, but not content with just that, the Norwegian is now on the cusp of creating Premier League history.
Solskjaer currently has 25 points from a possible 27 to his name from nine league matches at the helm. If the Red Devils beat Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday he will propel that tally to 28 points from 10 games.
The current record for a manager at a new Premier League club is held by Guus Hiddink who amassed 25 points from his opening 10 top-flight games at Chelsea back in 2009. So, Solskjaer only actually needs to avoid defeat to the Reds in order to stamp his name in the record books.
Liverpool may have only lost one league game this season, but their record at Old Trafford is poor, losing seven of their last nine league visits.
How does Solskjaer’s start compare to the league’s big dogs?
Pep Guardiola steamed to six straight wins at City, only to suffer a slight blip with a defeat, two draws, and a win from his following games, meaning his opening 10 top-flight fixtures produced 23 points.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool may be enjoying a stellar campaign, but upon his arrival the German gaffer could only register 15 points from his first 10 league matches at the helm, whereas Mauricio Pochettino was even worse off with just 14 points at the start of his Tottenham tenure.
Maurizio Sarri is in a whole world of trouble at Chelsea, and should his troops lose the League Cup final this weekend, he’s likely to be given the boot. However, the Italian did enjoy a cracking start to life at the Blues, setting a new Premier League record after going 12 games unbeaten - the first 10 of those fixtures wielded a whopping 24 points.
Another new starter, Unai Emery, lost to Man City and Chelsea but then bounced back with seven wins on the spin, plus a draw, giving the Spaniard an admirable 22 points.
