French side AS Monaco have come from nowhere and are now in contention to sign Chelsea FC target Alexander Golovin. They have submitted a ‘worthy’ bid to CSKA Moscow for their star man and also offered him a five-year-contract to sweeten the deal.

The vice-president of the Ligue 1 club, Vadim Vasiliev told SE: "We made CSKA a proposal for Golovin, I can not say the amount of the transfer, but it is very worthy. The duration of the contract? Standard, 5 years.

I think in this situation the transition to "Monaco" is the most correct option for Golovin. To go from Russia immediately to the top club of the leading European league is very risky. We are able to launch the career of young players. It is enough to look at Mbappe .

Everything should be decided in the coming days. Probably, even today. Understand, we can not wait long. If the transaction does not succeed, we will move on to the next candidate.”

The CSKA player had been reported to be ‘waiting on Juventus’ to make a bid as that is his preferred destination however he could be tempted by another offer.

Golovin played an important role for Russia during the World Cup and drew plaudits and suitors from around the globe. At just 22-years-old, he certainly has the potential to grow into an outstanding player but must choose his next destination wisely.  Chelsea and Monaco look set to take each other on in a battle for his signature, but patience may be key to the player getting the best deal.
