The Big Six of the Premier League usually like to dominate transfer proceedings in January, but high-flying Watford - currently nestled just outside that cluster and behind 13-time Premier League champions Manchester United - in seventh are striving for due attention as they prepare for a cross-channel battle with Monaco for fresh-faced forward Francois Komano.
22-year-old Kamano currently plies his trade at Bordeaux, who are currently 13th in France’s Ligue 1 after 18 games.
He has scored eight goals so far this season, one more than Monaco forward Radamel Falcao. Les Monegasques have reportedly already submitted a €13 million bid for Kamano.
Monaco are taking strides in the transfer window in an attempt to climb out of the relegation zone. Manager Thierry Henry has already recruited old Arsenal teammate Cesc Fabregas to assist with their quest after a simply dire follow-up season that has eradicated memories of their second-place finish in 2017/18.
France Football reports that Watford will attempt to prise Kamano out of Monaco’s cluthes and are prepared to offer Bordeaux a €17 million deal (including €2 million worth of bonuses).
Bordeaux, les Girondins, however have slapped a €25million pricetag on their forward, whose versatility means he can play anywhere along the front-line, though his preferred position is on the left-wing.
The Guinea international has been at Bordeaux since 2016 after moving from now-Championnat National 3 side Bastia in 2016 and is contracted at the club until 2021. Komano has made over a century of appearances for Bordeaux, contributing 27 goals and 12 assists.
If he joins Watford, Kamano will be battling it out with Gerard Deulofeu, Isaac Success, Andre Gray, Adalberto Penaranda, and captain Troy Deeney for a place in Javi Gracia’s XI.
