Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has pulled himself into some very illustrious managerial company after his Manchester United side recorded their sixth league win on the spin against Brighton at Old Trafford this afternoon.
Carlo Ancelotti, when he was at Chelsea, and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City were the only two Premier League managers to have managed to win six straight games in the competition at the start of a stint at a club until today.
Now Solskjaer has matched their record.
Should the Norwegian be able to guide his side to a win over Burnley in their next tie in the league he would be out on his own in front in that department.
It’s been a remarkably comfortable introduction to life at the helm at Manchester United for the club legend Solskjaer, with his side swatting aside Cardiff, Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Newcastle and Spurs in the league - as well as Reading in the FA Cup.
With today’s win, the new Manchester manager has also pulled closer to his predecessors best run in the roll.
Jose Mourinho’s best run of successive wins in all competitions was nine, which came just about two years ago. Meaning Solskjaer is already nearing that point, with seven wins across all competitions.
The man himself, though, seems more interested in what the reaction will be when this perfect start to his tenure ends than record-chasing.
“Yes, we will lose a game,” he said. “Yes, we will have to react to it and get up the next morning. I’ve seen enough to know they have the character to turn it round, and I know I too have that character.”
@vancole9 believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has had a huge hand in revitalising Marcus Rashford..
