Pep Guardiola will lead his side back to Anfield this weekend in the hope of doing something that no City side has done in 15 years. No Man City team have managed to take all three points away from Anfield since 2003, when the legendary Kevin Keegan was in charge of the Reds.
The 2002/03 campaign was a strange season for City, who played their last season at Maine Road before moving to the brand new City of Manchester Stadium. They crashed out of both the League Cup and FA Cup in the Third Round but they did manage to finish ninth in the league, a decent performance for this squad.
This was their first season back up in the top flight after winning Division 1 and Keegan managed to steer them to a top half finish and into the qualifying round of the UEFA Cup, as fair play winners. Their average home attendance for this season was 34,464, for those people who said CIty had no fans in these days.
A run of one win in eight games towards the end of the season brought to an end their hopes of a top-six finish, but this was still a reasonably successful season, before the money, for Man City.
This 2-1 away win at Liverpool occurred on the 3 May in the last away game of the season for the Citizens. They unfortunately then lost their last ever home game at Maine Road, a 1-0 home reverse to Southampton thanks to a goal from Michael Svensson in the first half.
This is about that Liverpool clash though, can you remember the City XI from that day? There are some corking players in this line-up.
