We know FIFA are not the best at making these sorts of decisions but they have had an absolute howler with their Team of the Tournament. There is no place for Golden Glove winner Thibaut Courtois or Golden Boot winner Harry Kane and there are a few more shockers in this list.
In goal is the World Cup winning captain Hugo Lloris. Despite his clanger in the final he did have an excellent tournament and got his hands on the big prize at the end of it. No qualms here although Courtois can feel slightly aggrieved to have missed out.
In a flat back four, Kieran Trippier gets the nod at right-back thanks to his stunning semi-final free-kick, although Frenchman Benjamin Pavard will be disappointed that he misses out after a brilliant campaign.
Rafael Varane was the best defender throughout the tournament so his place in this side is warranted but remarkably alongside him Dejan Lovren is picked ahead of the imperious Diego Godin. This is a very European based side but Godin must feel aggrieved he has missed out.
Then we come to the big one. At left-back is England’s, Ashley Young. Yep. Young somehow worms his way into the side after a mediocre tournament which ended when he was taken off ahead of the extra-time period after being run ragged.
In midfield, Golden Ball winner Luka Modric is partnered with Paulinho for some inexplicable reason. N’golo Kante and Paul Pogba both miss out to the man who now plays his football in China and had a very average World Cup as Brazil went out in the quarters.
Neymar also has found his way into this side despite spending most of the tournament on the floor and failing to drag his side into the semi-finals of the competition. The other three names Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and Eden Hazard are all deserving of their place but FIFA have made some seriously bad calls here.
Who would have made it into your side?
'Lovren' is a weird way to spell 'Maguire'...
