As fans turn their attentions to 2022-23 after a thrilling recent Premier League campaign, the pricing of season tickets for the new season has been put under the spotlight amid the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis.
Ahead of next term, Bloomberg has published a table of each Premier League club’s cheapest adult season ticket prices, and from the 20 top-flight clubs only West Ham United fans will see a decrease in what they pay. The cheapest Hammers tickets will be £299 for their 19 home matches at the London Stadium, with the average price per game costing £15.73.
The second-lowest season ticket comes from reigning champions Manchester City. Their cheapest pass is £350, and while that is an increase from last year it is still an excellent price given the quality of football on show at an average of £18.42 per game.
The champions are followed by the top-flight’s new boys Nottingham Forest, who are about to embark on their first season in the Premier League after 23 years in the wilderness, with tickets available for £385, the same cost as for the cheapest Leicester City subscription.
Southampton fans can guarantee a season’s worth of action for £399, which is another price freeze after they actually decreased the cost for the 2021-22 campaign. While some clubs look to boost their revenues through the gates with increasing rises at the turnstile, it is good to see that some clubs have set their prices to reflect the financial strain on the country at this particular time. It is only a shame that not all clubs have had the same idea, but praise has to be given to these particular clubs who have put fans first.
