Christian Eriksen is still negotiating a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur as the club bids to pin down another one of their star players to a long-term deal, although if reports are to be believed the process is proving to be a frustrating affair.

Eriksen, whose current deal runs through to 2020, has reportedly attracted the attention of Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Manchester United may even decide to swoop in and lure the Danish playmaker up to Old Trafford.

The current situation has brought to light Eriksen’s pay package, which is £70,000-a-week, a minuscule amount when compared to some of the Premier League’s top earners.

Four of the league’s top-five best-paid players ply their trade in Manchester: Alexis Sanchez (1st - £315,000-a-week), Paul Pogba (3rd - £290,000), and Romelu Lukaku (5th - £250,000) over on the red-half, then Kevin De Bruyne (4th - £280,000) at Man City - information courtesy of cnbc.com.

Meanwhile, back in North London, Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil earns a staggering £306,250 - 2nd on the list - dwarfing Eriksen’s wage.

Ozil remarkably earns four times as much as the Spurs star, however a look at statistics from the start of last season reveals that Erikson has 15 goals and 17 assists in all competitions for Tottenham, compared to Ozil’s nine goals and 15 assists.

With the above in mind, you can see the obvious monetary attraction of moving to a Premier League rival, while he could possibly boost his chances of winning silverware, although that’s open to debate.

Tottenham recently broke the bank as Harry Kane signed a new contract worth up to £62.4 million, a six-year deal that could earn him £200,000-a-week with bonuses. Teammate Dele Alli followed suit last month, signing a new five-and-a-half-year contract that doubled his wage from £50,000, to a reported £100,000.

Daniel Levy’s willingness to shed out the cash on Kane and Alli is perhaps positive news for Eriksen, however any new deal will still leave the 26-year-old trailing in the wake of the Premier League’s top earners.
