Private Jets & Bodyguards: The Amazing Demands Kylian Mbappe Made To Sign For PSG

The PSG striker Kylian Mbappe is one of the world’s most valued athletes, with the €180m price tag that he commanded in his 2017 move to the French capital almost looking like good business as he continues to collect silverware and his worth on the market continues to rise.

The precocious talent, who is now a World Cup winner at just 19, appears to be very well aware of just what his status as a global superstar is, judging by the contents of today’s Der Spiegel article detailing the demands he made to the Parisian club during the process of his transfer from Monaco.

In mid-August of 2017, Mbappe and his father Wilfrid sat down with the PSG hierarchy and laid out what they wanted to have Kylian move back to his home city to play. The German outlet, basing their reports off documents made available to them by Football Leaks, claim that a basic salary demand of €50m over five years was made, as well as a €5m signing-on bonus, both of which were after-tax figures. The club agreed.

But Der Spiegel claim that another series of demands were made in those negotiations and they give a fascinating insight into the reality that those as talented as the young Frenchman operate in.

One of those demands, which was accepted, was for the provision of a €30,000 monthly allowance with which he can pay his personal staff, which include: “a caretaker, a driver and a bodyguard.”

Some even more outlandish demands, including the club making a private jet available to him for 50 hours per year, and permission for his father to be granted access to training sessions, were turned down.

A proposed clause that would see the World Cup winner usurp Neymar as the club’s top earner should he win a Ballon d’Or was batted away, too.

The prospect of financial compensation in the event of PSG being banned from the Champions League due to breaches of Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulation, was brought up by the Mbappe camp, too, in what must be one of the most bold set of pay demands ever made by a teenager during contract talks with a potential employer.
