AFC Bournemouth have sacked head coach Scott Parker in the wake of their 9-0 defeat to Liverpool. The former Fulham manager had described the loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side as “the most painful day” he had endured as a player or a coach in his post-match press conference on Saturday afternoon.
Some of Parker’s comments after the humbling defeat have been scrutinised, after the departing manager said "there is no denying we are under-equipped at this level". It is unusual to see a manager so candidly admit to the shortcomings of his side and the recruitment being done. It appears his words were not well-received internally.
In a club statement, co-owner Maxim Demin said, “I would like to place on record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us. Our promotion back to the Premier League last season under his tenure will always be remembered as one of the most successful seasons in our history.

“However, in order for us to keep progressing as a team and a Club as a whole, it is unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably. We must also show belief in and respect for one another. That is the approach that has brought this club so much success in recent history, and one that we will not veer from now. Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately.”
This is the earliest managerial sacking since Christian Gross was let go from Tottenham Hotspur after three games in 1998.
Former Middlesbrough and West Ham United midfielder Gary O’Neil will take interim charge of the team, who welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow night.
