Argue against Sergio Aguero being the finest striker of the past 10 years to grace the Premier League. We’ll wait.
The Argentinian spearheaded a determined Manchester City side in arguably the most eagerly-anticipated Premier League fixture of the weekend, welcoming Chelsea and hoping to recapture the top tier top spot from Liverpool who had sailed back into first the previous day.
The Cityzens certainly welcomed the West London club in style, going 4-0 up before the half-hour mark, and Aguero made sure all eyes were firmly on him.
Mere minutes after producing the miss of the season after Bernardo Silva had laid a beautiful square ball across the face of goal only for him to to see it staggeringly be put wide by the man who has fewer glaring misses on his CV than goalkeepers have goals to name, Aguero put wrongs to rights.
The 30-year-old produced one of the goals of the season to make it 2-0 - after Raheem Sterling’s opener after just four minutes - by unleashing a mega-shot that left world’s most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga between the sticks for Chelsea utterly helpless.
The strike stunned the watching crowd at the Etihad, used to watching beautiful football since manager Pep Guardiola’s arrival, and left Chelsea with a gigantic mountain to climb.
Sergio Aguero has helped City sing since 2011, has three Premier League title wins to his name, and has scored over 219 goals for the club in all competition.
With his first half brace - oh did we forget to mention he also scored the third? - Aguero surpassed Eric Brook as City’s all-time top league goalscorer.
