Sergio Aguero On The Verge Of Making History At Manchester City

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero needs just one more goal to cement his place as a club icon, after equalling Eric Brook’s record during the 3-0 win against Burnley.

The Argentina international broke his ribs in a car accident just over three weeks ago but looked razor sharp after starting the match at the Etihad Stadium.

When you look at the 29-year-old’s stats it is easy to see why he has long been rated as one of the best strikers in the world and an indispensable player for City.

After a little more than six years since his move from Atletico Madrid, Aguero has scored the same amount of goals as Brook in just under half the amount of time.

The South American forward has played a crucial role ever since day one in England.

When a player arrives into a new league from another country it can often take them a season just to adapt, meaning for example if they are a striker they might not be as potent in front of goal.

Aguero proved to be a very big exception to that rule, notching an incredible 30 goals in 48 appearances and helping City to a first league title in 44 years.

Keen to show he was someone who could deliver in the biggest of games, Aguero scored a goal that will be remembered for decades, netting a stoppage-time winner against QPR on the final day to secure domestic glory.

After what felt like an eternity without success for City supporters, Aguero was suddenly helping the club to become regular contenders for the biggest honours.

During the 2013-14 campaign, he notched another hugely impressive tally of 28 goals in 34 games, which saw City scoop the Premier League crown and League Cup.

Every year he has continued to have a major influence and the fact he has consistently netted 25 goals or more in all but one of the past six seasons is a crystal clear reminder of his class.

Despite rumours of a rift between Aguero and current City manager Pep Guardiola, the former Atletico forward has continued to demonstrate just how much of a pivotal part of the team he is.

With eight goals in nine games already this campaign Aguero has started the season in great form and has looked devastating up front alongside Gabriel Jesus.

With the club recording their 11th straight win in all competitions following the win against Burnley, Guardiola will be hoping Aguero can stay injury-free for as long as possible because his presence is such a huge boost.

As well as contributing an awful lot of goals himself, whether that be in the air or using both feet, Aguero also creates plenty of opportunities for his teammates.

One more goal will see him become an esteemed part of the club’s history but supporters will know the longer he stays at City the greater the chances are of adding to a rapidly-growing trophy cabinet.
