Loris Karius has had to fight his way through a sea of negativity over the last 12 months, but the Liverpool goalkeeper answered his critics last night in stunning fashion as the German shot-stopper helped Turkish side Besiktas claim a 0-0 draw with Alanyaspor.
Karius' performances for Liverpool last season came in for significant criticism from the footballing world and his pain concluded with a dismal performance in the Champions League final, where he gifted Real Madrid the trophy with a dreadful display in the Reds net.
However, the arrival of Alisson Becker to Anfield saw Karius' Merseyside nightmare come to and end and Jurgen Klopp sent him out on a two-year loan to Besiktas as the 25-year-old tried to get his career back on track.
A tough start to life at the heavyweight Turkish club often saw Karius come in for criticism, but his display last night showed that there is still some ability in his game and his stoppage time save epitomised his performance as he denied Alanyaspor a late winner and bagged a vital point for his new club.
It was to be Karius' second clean sheet in a row and it was unsurprising that he was awarded the Man of the Match award at the end of the goalless draw last night, and he will be now aiming to maintain that sort of quality display between the sticks as the season goes on, and while it's unlikely that Klopp will want him in his side again he could use this confidence-boosting performance to re-ignite his career.
