Rochdale have so far endured an absolute stinker of a season at the bottom of League One, but in the FA Cup Keith Hill's men have thrived.
Dale had previously booted out Doncaster and Millwall en-route to the fifth round of the famous cup competition, however they faced an altogether different challenge against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
Dale headed into the last-16 clash at home to Spurs as the huge outsiders to conjure up a shock upset at a returfed Spotland, but quite incredibly the third-tier strugglers stunned their top-flight opponents in the first-half when Ian Henderson gave the hosts a surprise lead on the stroke of half-time.
Henderson, who had already missed a couple of excellent chances, made absolutely no mistake this time around as he coolly slotted home following a cracking passage of play from Hill’s troops.
Some crisp passing ripped open the Spurs defence as Andrew Cannon layed off the perfect ball to the unmarked Henderson in the penalty area. The skipper, in acres of space, then fired the ball into the back of the net, sending the home support into raptures!
Tottenham went into the changing rooms absolutely shell-shocked, while Rochdale began to dream of a cup upset of epic proportions.
Prior to the goal Spurs had their fair share of chances, with Son denied by Josh Lillis, while Fernando Llorente’s torrid form in front of goal for Spurs, flashing an effort wide of the post when he really should have found the back of the bet.
