It was only a year ago that Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho made the monstrous £142m move from Liverpool to Barcelona, but 12 months on the diminutive attacking sensation is ready to leave the Nou Camp and there should be one club that looks to sign him.
Manchester United have been galvanised by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - winning their last five games since the Norwegian's arrival - but if the Red Devils are to claw themselves into the Premier League top-four then they need a sensational signing to help finish the second half of the season in style.
Coutinho has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as he has struggled to cement his place in the Barca line-up and has seen himself go down the pecking order at the La Liga club, with the likes of Arturo Vidal and Ousmane Dembele leapfrogging him in the thoughts of boss Ernesto Valverde.
Having only started nine of Barcelona's 16 La Liga matches this season, Coutinho has failed to set the Spanish top-flight alight, and it could be that he would relish a move back to the Premier League, and while Liverpool fans will not enjoy their former hero donning the United kit they are sure to get a financial boost from the sell-on clause they no doubt have on Coutinho's future transfer dealings, so that influx of money should keep the Merseysiders happy.
But, while Coutinho could be potentially on his way out of Barcelona, United must make sure they are ready to try and bag his signature, as he would significantly bolster the Red Devils' attacking prowess, and a three-pronged attacking midfield of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Coutinho would certainly enhance the current feelgood factor at Old Trafford.
He will certainly not come cheap, but United must make a significant statement if they are to try and catch fourth-placed Chelsea, who sit six points above sixth-placed United, and if the Brazilian makes his way to United that could be the major push they need to ensure Champions League football in offer next season.
