TheSportsman.com is honoured to donate £257 to the Royal British Legion, contributing to the overwhelming success of last month’s Poppy Appeal.
Working in conjunction with Stockport County Football Club, The Sportsman challenged charismatic Hatters midfielder Gary Stopforth to a kick up challenge, matching every completed kick up with a £1 donation to the Appeal.
Stockport County also paid a fantastic Remembrance Weekend tribute before a home game to FC United of Manchester, bringing 2 bugle players to perform The Last Post on the pitch ahead of kick off, surrounded by members of The British Armed Forces. Over 4000 were in attendance and observed an impeccable silence as the game remembered those lost or injured in battle.
The donation was well received by The Royal British Legion, who commented on Gary’s efforts. “A massive thank you to Gary Stopforth and everyone at The Sportsman for supporting this year's Poppy Appeal in such a unique way. The vital work of the Royal British Legion is entirely dependent on the public’s generous support - last year we were able to answer more than a million requests for help from the Armed Forces community, and your generosity will go towards ensuring we can keep on helping our Armed Forces community to live on” said Legion PR Officer Jon Keighren.
The Sportsman are fully aware of the great work, and causes which are aided by The Royal British Legion, and would again like to thank the efforts of Stockport County and Gary Stopforth.
