The Staggering Numbers Behind Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr Contract

Ronaldo is believed to have joined the Saudi Arabian side on a two-and-a-half-year deal

It’s official, Cristiano Ronaldo has joined Saudi-Arabian side Al-Nassr on what is believed to be a two-and-a-half-year contract - and it is jaw-dropping. The former Manchester United forward has just been handed a record-breaking contract that is set to pocket him a staggering £178 million per year - ridiculous right?

This has certainly been an interesting development considering how during his tell-all interview with Piers Morgan last month he snubbed any chance of moving to Saudi Arabia to earn a “king’s ransom”, in favour of continuing to play at the highest level - and yet here we are.

It has been in the pipeline for a while and we were left flabbergasted by some of the figures surrounding his deal when at the time it was all just speculation. Now that Ronaldo has signed on the dotted line with the Saudi Arabian side, and has the potential to play alongside Cameroon’s Vincent Aboubakar up front, he has just been handed the biggest financial contract in football history.

As it turns out the whispers were right. The veteran Portuguese star has secured himself a mega multi-million deal worth £178,050,000 per year.

Here are the baffling numbers behind football’s biggest ever contract:

  • £14,244,000 per month

  • £3,382,950 per week

  • £487,808 per day

  • £20,325 per hour

  • £338.30 per minute

  • £5.64 per second

Just to compare, Ronaldo’s long-time footballing rival Lionel Messi was awarded a mouth-watering £139,072,572.93 per year deal at Barcelona between 2017-2020. It kind of makes sense why the club are in such financial difficulty for throwing money around like that.

American football star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, in a sport which is filled with mulit-million dollar contracts, has a current deal which earns him around £34,647,600 per year with Kansas City Chiefs. So Ronaldo is set to earn five times more than the National Football League star in one year which further highlights how mad this contract is.

Then if you want to go into bonkers territory, EFL Championship club Barnsley have a wage bill of around £11.1 million per year. So it would take them around 15.7 years to pay their staff the amount that Ronaldo will earn in just one calendar year.
