Jose Mourinho got the better of yet another Premier League manager this afternoon as Eddie Howe’s men were beaten at the death by a late Marcus Rashford goal. That goal, in turn, extended one of Mourinho’s outstanding managerial records in English football.
Jose Mourinho in charge of Manchester United, has never lost a Premier League game to a side managed by an English manager. This is a run that goes back 21 games in total and his win percentage over English managers is simply outstanding.
Of this 21 game run, Mourinho has won 17 games and drawn four. Mourinho clearly has a spell over the teams managed by English coaches. Of course, none of the ‘big six’ in the Premier League are managed by an English coach but teams such as Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Brighton are all coached by Englishmen.
Roy Hodgson, Eddie Howe and Chris Hughton are all regarded as some of the top managers in the division but Mourinho manages to cast a spell over them when they face Manchester United. Mourinho has come in for a whole heap of criticism this season but they have now picked up ten points from their last 12 available, only Ross Barkley's last-gasp equaliser prevented them from making it a full complement.
United fans will be delighted after this result today and should be feeling full of confidence next time they come up against a team managed by an Englishman. Next up for them, however, is Juventus, followed by Manchester City!
