The Stunning Stats That Show Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Is Streets Ahead of Manchester United Predecessors

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer marked his tenth game in charge of Manchester United since taking over from Jose Mourinho with a solid - if not spectacular - 1-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Already beloved for his ‘99 European exploits, the Norwegian has led the Red Devils on a ten-match unbeaten run, up to fifth in the Premier League - and in real competition for a Champions League spot for next season - and through two rounds of the FA Cup. It’s no surprise to learn that the Baby-Faced Assassin is miles ahead of any of the managers that have come after Sir Alex Ferguson retired in getting off the block at the helm.

Solskjaer has nine wins from his ten possible fixtures - a blip coming at Old Trafford against a solid Burnley outfit last month.

His Manchester United side, helped by the resurgence of Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba, have tallied 25 goals, conceded just seven, and kept four clean sheets; results that put the three full-time United managers before him in the shade.

David Moyes (2013-14)

Former Everton manager Moyes was the first to be given the unenviable job of taking over from Fergie. He began his tenure with a solid 2-0 Community Shield victory over surprise FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic who had defeated Manchester City at Wembley the previous May.

That would, ultimately, however, prove to be the only piece of silverware the Scot earned in his short stint at Old Trafford.

His first game of the season was an encouragingly 4-1 win at the Liberty Stadium over Swansea City but then there were three loses in the following run that featured defeats to Liverpool and Manchester City, by a cumulative score of five goals to one. They would also suffer a 2-1 loss to a West Bromwich Albion side who would eventually finish just a place above the relegation zone.

Louis van Gaal (2014-16)

The divisive Dutchman arrived with equal fanfare and trepidation. In his early days - way before he would help United win their first FA Cup in 12 years - his Man Utd side exited the League Cup at the hands of MK Dons, a loss that still resonates with many a United fan who consider it a precedent for the seasons to come. Ten points for Gryffindor if you can name the starting XI from that day, which featured such faces as Saidy Janko, Reece James, and Marnick Vermijl.

He even started off with a league loss to the Swans - even with the home advantage - that Moyes had comprehensively beaten the year before (2-1) and his attempted pragmatic style only resulted in three wins, and astonishingly meant United had a minus goal difference after their first ten fixtures under van Gaal.

Jose Mourinho (2016-18)

Like Moyes, Mourinho started off his competitive tenure at United with a Community Shield win; this time over Leicester City who had emerged to stun football as Premier League champions in 2015/16.

Mourinho would be the most successful manager of the immediate post-Fergie era, bringing three trophies back to the Theatre of Dreams.

At the start of his reign, Man Utd fans may well have thought the good times were coming back with one of the most honoured managers of the 21st Century so far, and a solid start certainly seemed to indicate that. Mourinho achieved seven wins in his first ten games, with United scoring 18 goals in that period.

Solskjaer will look to continue his scintillating run when travelling to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham in the league in Gameweek 26, before a testing week where Paris Saint-Germain await in the Champions League and welcoming league leaders Liverpool to Old Trafford.
