Transfer silly season will be here before too long with the major leagues across Europe entering the business end and it can be hard for fans to know what rumours to take seriously and what to ignore.
The Manchester United squad is sure to be the subject of intense speculation over the summer with the Old Trafford club desperately looking to claw their way back to the top of the Premier League tree.
This season has been a tough one for them following the pain of the Jose Mourinho era but thankfully things have picked up in recent weeks following the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has ridden into town on his white horse.
The work in earnest though begins in the summer with the transfer market and a story today in the Express today is suggesting that United and Inter Milan could be set to get involved win a mega swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Mauro Icardi.
Often these swap deals make no sense in the real world but on this occasion this could be a transfer that suits all four parties involved.
Icardi is clearly not wanted at Inter any more after being stripped of his captaincy but he remains one of the best strikers in the world and would surely flourish given the right environment. The Argentinean striker has been one of most consistent strikers in Europe in recent years but clearly needs to get away from the Nerazzurri after a major following out with the fans and board.
United must be looking closely at the Icardi situation as any big club in Europe worth their salt should be doing and this could be the perfect opportunity to offload Lukaku.
The Belgian does have a terrific scoring record in the Premier League but his overall quality in the link up play remains hugely questionable and both United managers this season have felt the need to leave out their star striker on a number of occasions.
At 26 and 25, Icardi and Lukaku have a very similar profile in terms of their age and goal scoring record and a fresh start for both men in a new environment could benefit both teams as they look they look to launch themselves into the future.
Man United have to ask themselves if Lukaku is the striker they need to challenge Man City and Liverpool in particular over the next five years and if not, there has to be a serious decision to be made about offloading the former Chelsea man.
The Inter legend ticks plenty of boxes in terms of a goalscorer at the highest level and for once we could actually see one of these transfer rumours prove to be a sensible option for two of the biggest clubs in the world.
What do you think Man United fans, would you take Icardi for Lukaku?
