This Is How Close Manchester City Came To Conceding An Unbelievable Own Goal v Liverpool

Manchester City came within millimetres of conceding one of the funniest goals in Premier League in their high-pressure title decider against Liverpool but somehow they kept the ball out after a wonderful Liverpool move.

City came out of the traps absolutely flying as they looked to take the game to Liverpool early on but Jurgen Klopp’s men held their ground and began to grow into the game after a frantic start from both sides. The best move of the game came as Liverpool played out from the back and got the ball to their star man Mo Salah in the centre circle.

He played a quick one-two with Roberto Firmino before he was in a dangerous space, running at City’s back line. He played an inch-perfect ball through to Sadio Mane who slid the ball past Ederson but the ball agonisingly rebounded back off the left-hand post and away from goal.

It was then a race to the ball as Ederson dived back towards his own goal and John Stones and Sadio Mane chased the teasing ball. The England defender managed to get their first and blasted the ball away from goal, unfortunately for him, it smacked his onrushing goalkeeper and bounced painfully towards his goal again.

Stones’ speedy reactions allowed him to get back onto the goal line and clear, but to many spectators, it looked as if the ball had crossed the line. The goalline technology did not award the goal and as you can see below it was so close to giving Liverpool the lead at the Etihad.

This would have gone down in history as one of the most hilarious but vital own goals.
