Tim Sherwood Gets Burnt With Bewildering Claim About Premier League Sack Race

Football is a sport of opinions, some superb, many distinctly average, and most wretched.

If you’re in the public eye then any comment you make will be instantly dissected on social media, and history tells us that it’s often the case that your words will come back to slap you in the face, as Tim Sherwood has just found out.

Sherwood, an unintentional comedy genius, has been out of management far too long for our liking here at The Sportsman, but on the plus side he’s still sprouting out corking comments from the seat of the BT Sport sofa.

His latest classic was in relation to the Premier League Sack Race, with the former Tottenham and Aston Villa gaffer asked, on Saturday, to give his prediction on when he thought the first 2018/19 top-flight managerial casualty would take place.

“I’m not sure we’re going to see any sackings this season,” said a confident Sherwood, much to the shock of his fellow pundits.

“I just think (clubs) will stick to their guns this year.

“I think there’s a lot of teams that are underachieving, but I think you’re more likely to stay in the division sticking with your guns.”

Four days later Sherwood was made to gobble his words, after Slavisa Jokanovic was sacked by Fulham, and replaced by Claudio Ranieri.

In fairness, while the manner of the swift sacking/replacement came as a huge shock, results had not been going the Serb’s way and it wasn’t too much of a surprise that the Cottagers opted to wield the axe during the international break.

Jokanovic may soon have company in the Job Centre, with Mark Hughes under severe pressure at Southampton, while there’s a number of other gaffers that are feeling the heat after a dozen games.

Anyway, sit back and enjoy the latest gem from Sherwood.
