Chelsea's priority during this transfer window is to sign a striker who can actually score goals as they continue to huff and puff in the attacking third, although they are also looking to ship out some of the 'deadwood'.
Cesc Fabregas has already departed for Monaco and another elder statesman, Gary Cahill, is expected to leave Stamford Bridge after being pushed to the fringes of the Chelsea squad.
Cahill has found his opportunities under Maurizio Sarri limited this season as his game time has been limited to four matches as captain in the Europa League and two in the EFL Cup, while his sole contribution to the Premier League campaign was a 21-minute cameo against West Ham in September.
The 33-year-old is understandably keen to move on and Fulham are 1/2 odds-on with bookmaker, Bet Victor, to sign the former England centre-back before the January transfer window closes.
Cahill would be an ideal solution for a Fulham defence that has conceded a Premier League-high 49 goals this season, and yet he could be forgiven for thinking that he might be able to find regular first-team football with a better club...
Arsenal, perhaps?
The short trip to North London would be ideal for a player like Cahill as he would be a perfect short-term fix to the defensive problems that currently beset the Gunners. Unai Emery's men have conceded 32 goals in 22 league games so far - only Bournemouth (42) of the current top-fourteen teams in the Premier League table have conceded more.
Arsenal have been riddled with injuries striking down several defenders of late as Rob Holding is out for the rest of the season, while Laurent Koscielny faces a battle to rediscover fitness and his very best form.
Meanwhile, the sight of the hapless Socratis Papastathopoulos, Shkodran Mustafi and Saed Kolasinac lining up in in Emery's back-line only serves to fill The Emirates with trepidation.
Cahill is currently 4/1 to sign for Arsenal before the transfer window closes and the experienced defender could be an ideal stop-gap solution to the Gunners' current defensive crisis, until they can perhaps splash the cash on a younger model in the summer.
"His mind is not completely involved in our situation. We have to wait. For Cahill, the situation is different. We have Ampadu so we don't need a replacement."
Looks like his time is up!
