Was Liverpool Goalkeeper Alisson Fouled As Burnley Scored Direct From A Corner At Anfield?

Decisions just do not seem to be going Liverpool’s way in recent weeks. Yesterday, Man City took the lead through an offside Raheem Sterling goal in their 3-1 win over Watford, whilst the Reds went behind today against Burnley thanks to a bizarre decision from the referee.

Ashley Westwood swung in a corner into towards the goal where several of his teammates were crowding around Liverpool keeper Alisson. Jack Cork and James Tarkowski were two of the players trapping Alisson and as the ball came towards him, Tarkowski brings his arm across the Liverpool keeper to prevent him jumping and claiming the ball.

As it happened, the ball curled straight over the keeper, and into the far corner, giving the visitors a surprise early lead. Andre Marriner rubbed salt into the wound by booking the Brazilian keeper as he protested his case.

Liverpool regained their focus and have managed to retake the lead after an impressive response. Roberto Firmino brought them level before some excellent work from the much-criticised Adam Lallana gave Mane the chance to finish, which he did with aplomb.

As things stand, the Reds will go back to within one point of their title rivals but they are making hard work of it with decisions going seeming to go against them. There is a whole second half to play but Jurgen Klopp’s side will want to get the three points in the bag and move on, with Bayern Munich on the horizon in midweek.
