Watford Go Agonisingly Close To Sweet Win Over ''Snake'' Marco Silva

It was so close to being a night to remember for Watford fans as they were denied a first win at Goodison Park for the first time ever.

Luca Digne salvaged a point for the Toffees in the final minute of stoppage time

For much of the second half it looked like Watford were on their way to a victory which would have been all the more sweeter against an Everton side managed by the former Hornets boss Marco Silva and featuring £50mliion man Richarlison.

The travelling Watford fans took toy snakes to Goodison to troll Silva and remind him that they haven't forgot his behaviour while he was at Vicarage Road. Silva may have been sacked by Watford but the fans have never forgot how he had his head turned by Everton - eventually returning there in the summer to replace Sam Allardyce.

In the build-up to the game, Hornets skipper Troy Deeney had said they wanted to "smash" Richarlison after he left the club to go and work with his old boss on Merseyside.

The Watford fans' night in Liverpool got off to a bad start as Richarlison scored the opening goal though there was a strong suspicion of offside in the build-up. But there was a dramatic turnaround in the second half as Watford scored twice in three minutes through a Seamus Coleman own goal and then Abdoulaye Doucoure made it 2-1.

The drama was not over as Everton's Gylfi Sigurdsson saw his penalty well saved by Ben Foster to preserve Watford's lead. The spot kick was awarded by Kevin Friend for a rash challenge on Yerry Mina by Christian Kabasele. Foster was serenaded with "England's number one" in a dig at Everton and England's first choice stopper Jordan Pickford.

But Digne rifled home a free kick in the last minute of stoppage time to break Watford hearts.
