Arsenal are yet to keep a clean sheet under manager Unai Emery ahead of Thursday night's Europa League clash with Vorskla Poltava and they desperately need to shore up defensively, although the latest transfer rumour is linking them with yet another attacker.
The goals have been shared around so far this season as not a single Gunners player has scored more than once this term and Emery may be able to add more attacking thrust to his squad in the January transfer window.
According to Football London, Arsenal's 'head of football', Raul Sanllehi, has opened talks with Boca Juniors regarding the signing of the highly-rated Argentine winger Cristian Pavon. Sanllehi, who has previously worked with Barcelona, has strong connections in South American football and is keen to bring Pavon to the Premier League.
Pavon signed a new deal with Boca during the summer but there is reportedly a €50m release clause in his contract and Arsenal could be ready to splash out on a player who has enjoyed an impressive career to date.
The 22-year-old started out with Talleres before he joined Boca in 2014. He has gone on to help the Argentine giants win successive league titles in his homeland, scoring 25 goals and laying on 29 assists in his 89 appearances for the club.
Pavon has been compared to Alexis Sanchez but he arguably boasts greater pace than the Chilean, while he usually plays on the right wing but is capable of cutting in from the left to great effect.
Boasting a tremendous work ethic that ensures he never shirks his defensive responsibilities, the diminutive Pavon caught the eye with his impressive displays for Argentina at the World Cup. The winger was one of the few Argentine players to perform well as they were ousted at the last-sixteen stage by the eventual champions France in Russia.
