Why Liverpool Must Target This Barcelona Star If They Are To Challenge For Premier League Title
Jurgen Klopp has responded negatively to rumours that he is lining up a January move for Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele, but the Liverpool boss would be making a massive mistake if he wasn't to enquire about acquiring the services of the French international when the window opens in the new year.
It's rumoured that Dembele is on his last chance at the Spanish giants having struggled to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Camp Nou, and the 21-year-old could be on his way out if a team comes in with a fee that could attract Barcelona, and The Sun have reported that Liverpool are lining up a whopping £85m move for the attacking talent.
However, Klopp has already touched on the fact that he is unlikely to dig deep into the transfer funds in January having spent a huge amount of money in putting together his current crop that remain unbeaten in the league and are lively contenders for the title.
But, Klopp's failure to try and bolster the squad in January could ultimately end Liverpool's quest for a maiden Premier League title, as the German lacks the strength in depth in his squad that title contenders Manchester City have, and if the Merseysiders were to pick up a few injuries then they would not be able to live with Pep Guardiola's Citizens, who have depth across the whole squad.
It showed with the signing of Virgil Van Dijk last January what a notable name can do to push a squad to bigger heights in the second half of the season, and the Dutchman has been sensational this campaign, but if Klopp fails to launch a bid for Dembele in particular then he is scuppering his team's chances of landing silverware.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are three attacking gems at Anfield, but beyond that trio there's very little in terms of top-class talent in attack, while the midfield of Liverpool is lacking an exciting creative performer that can come to the party when the aforementioned triumvirate fail to sparkle.
So, while Klopp may not be willing to pull out the cheque book again, he must think long and hard about strengthening and Barcelona's Dembele would be an ideal fit for an improving Reds.
