Jose Mourinho won't start Diogo Dalot for Manchester United against Wolves despite making an impressive display on Wednesday.
The £19million defender was a stand-out performer as United made short work of Young Boys in the Champions League, easing to a 3-0 win.
But the former Porto player will have to wait for his Premier League debut says Mourinho.
“I want him, in this process of adaptation, to play totally fresh, so he’s not playing tomorrow,” Mourinho explained. “He plays Tuesday again (United play Derby County on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford.)
“Playing for Manchester United is difficult enough for a kid of 19-years-old. Coming from another country and after an important injury and surgery he doesn’t need to face more difficulties.
"It was a difficult pitch, he recovered totally and on Tuesday he will play again. He’s a very good player.”
One player who will be back in the United defence is Phil Jones who has recovered from an injury he sustained playing for England recently. Marcus Rashford is still suspended as is Nemanja Matic.
Wolves have won two, lost two and drawn one on their return to the Premier League. Their manager Nuno Espirito Santo is someone Mourinho knows well having worked with him at Porto though he was surprised that he took the route into management.
Mourinho said: “When they are players you always have players you have a little bit of a feeling they can become managers, but I don’t think even then think about it, that team at Porto. I would say 75% of them are now managers, Nuno reached the Premier League level and reached it on his own merit.
“He didn’t come direct to the Premier League, he came to the Championship, so he earned the right to be a Premier League manager and fantastic work, the result speaks by itself.”
