Why Talking About Manchester United Could Cost Jose Mourinho A Fortune

Jose Mourinho has been pretty quiet since he was sacked by Manchester United last month.

The Portugese coach was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who in turn has inspired the Red Devils to a sensational run of results, winning every game since he arrived.

Apart from being doorstepped in London by Sky Sports in the days after his sacking, Mourinho has been silent about the circumstances surrounding his Old Trafford exit.

Now it has emerged that Mourinho may be keeping quiet because he doesn't want to trigger a confidentiality clause in his settlement contract which would see him lose money if he even mentions Manchester United.

Mourinho has been signed up as a guest by BeIn Sports - which also employs Andy Gray and Richard Keys for their Premier League coverage -  for a couple of games but questions will be limited to the games he's watching.  On Thursday he will be giving his opinions on the Asian Cup match between Saudi Arabia and Qatar and on Saturday, he'll be offering his thoughts on Arsenal v Chelsea. The broadcaster is paying Mourinho an estimated £60,000 per game for his trouble.

During last year's World Cup, Mourinho was a guest pundit for Russia Today, working on five games during the tournament. His performances went down well with viewers, showing a more relaxed side than United fans had got used to.

The Times reports that Mourinho has been reminded of the clause and United's lawyers will be keeping a close eye on the pre-match coverage.
