Women's Super League Fixtures And Results: Arsenal Back In Domestic Action

The Gunners enjoyed a 5-1 win over Lyon in midweek
17:00, 21 Oct 2022

The Women’s Super League returns for another round of fixtures and after a thumping win over Champions League holder Lyon in midweek, Arsenal will be hoping to continue their perfect start with a win over Liverpool. That’s to come on Sunday, but here is how the weekend is set to pan out.

Tottenham Hotspur 0-3 Manchester City

Gareth Taylor’s Manchester City got a major win at Spurs thanks to star forward Khadija Shaw. She scored twice either side of half-time, before Lauren Hemp added a third in what was City's finest performance of the season. They;ll need more of these sort of displays to fight their way up the table.

Aston Villa 0-1 Everton

Everton secured another important away at Villa as Carla Ward is forced to come to terms with two home defeats on the spin. For Everton, Lucy Graham's solitary goal was enough to win the game but Brian Sorensen will be pleased with the solid defensive display that limited the home side to only a couple of chances.

Liverpool 0-2 Arsenal

12 wins a row in the WSL now for Arsenal and they are looking unstoppable at this moment in time. It wasn't a vintage display but goals from Lia Walti and Frida Maanum early on put this one to bed fairly early. Liverpool performed well, but they simply couldn't make a serious impact on this one. Four from four for the Gunners so far.

Leicester City vs Manchester United

Sunday, 3pm kick off.

Table toppers Manchester United are back in action after their perfect start to the season, as they take on bottom side Leicester. If this one goes along with the form book then United should secure a comfortable win. United, along with Arsenal, haven’t even conceded a goal yet while the Foxes have conceded nine and scored just once. United aren’t title challengers quite yet, but a few more wins will keep the confidence sky high.

West Ham United vs Reading

Sunday, 3pm kick off.

Visitors Reading look like they could be in serious trouble this season. Three matches, three defeats, one goal scored doesn’t make for pretty reading but they have faced the top two already. Last time out they were much improved and only went down 1-0 to Arsenal, so they’ll be hopeful off getting of the mark here.

West Ham look like a decent mid-table outfit so far, having secured that 2-1 win over Villa last time out. They will however be without Hawa Cissoko, who was sent off at the end of that game, and has sadly subsequently been targeted with online abuse.

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Chelsea

Sunday, 6.45pm kick off.

Chelsea visit Brighton on the back of three straight league wins - the perfect response to their opening day defeat to Liverpool. In midweek, they travelled to PSG in the Champions League and the signs of improvement within Emma Hayes' side were plain to see as the Blues won 1-0, courtesy of Millie Bright's first half strike at the State Jean-Bouin.

Meanwhile, Hope Powell’s Brighton have been hammered by both United and Arsenal, and sit near the relegation zone. They’ll be hoping to get their season up and running with a shock result here.
