Champions St Helens head to York City Knights on Sunday in the Betfred Women’s Super League, and the Round 2 encounter will be broadcast exclusively live by The Sportsman.
Saints got their title defence off to a convincing start last weekend with a 44-0 success over local rivals Wigan Warriors in front of The Sportsman’s camera, Amy Hardcastle’s brace of first-half tries helping them to build up a 28-point lead. And their second match of the season will see them visit the LNER Stadium to take on Lindsay Anfield’s Knights.
York also enjoyed a comfortable victory in Round 1, beating Huddersfield Giants 50-6, with Emma Kershaw and Hollie Dodd scoring two tries each. But the Knights, who finished third in the Women’s Super League last year and were edged out by Leeds Rhinos in the play-off semi-finals, will know that they face a much sterner test this weekend with the reigning champs coming to town.
The fixture will be the latest in The Sportsman’s raft of live fixtures across men’s, women’s and wheelchair rugby league during the 2022 season, all of them shown exclusively on The Sportsman’s dedicated rugby league YouTube channel, which also features our regular Women's Rugby League magazine show.
Saints skipper Jodie Cunningham will be the player to watch after her starring role in the win over Wigan last time out, and she told The Sportsman afterwards: “This year is the biggest year women’s rugby league has ever had, I genuinely believe that.
“The opportunity we’ve got at Saints to hopefully play in all the big games and then as England players hopefully play in the World Cup at the end of the year, it’s massive for us. We just want to take full advantage of everything we have this year.”
The clash at the LNER Stadium kicks off at 12pm BST on Sunday, with full live and exclusive coverage on The Sportsman Rugby League.
